Breakthrough Non-Invasive Heart Imaging Procedure Now Available at Tennova Healthcare - Turkey Creek Medical Center

Hospital is the first in Knoxville to offer the procedure

Knoxville, TN (August 3, 2023) – Patients requiring an assessment of their heart arteries for blockages now have the option for a non-invasive procedure known as Fractional Flow Reserve – Computed Tomography (FFR-CT) and Tennova Healthcare - Turkey Creek Medical Center is the first and only center to provide the service in Knoxville. Until now, measuring blood flow in the coronary arteries (FFR) required invasive cardiac catheterization.

The new technology integrates with Turkey Creek Medical Center’s existing imaging system. The FFR-CT scan offers a 3D view of the heart arteries that is used to determine the impact blockages have on blood flow. This test helps to identify the extent of a patient's coronary artery disease and whether it can be managed with medication, a minimally invasive procedure or heart surgery.

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death among Americans. Cholesterol plaques can develop in the coronary arteries – vital blood vessels that deliver oxygen-rich blood to the heart. As plaques accumulate, they can obstruct blood flow and lead to heart attacks or disabling symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath.
